Influencer ‘GH Kobby’ arrested for shooting girlfriend at Yeji

Ghanaian social media personality Hayford Boateng, widely known as GH Kobby, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Philipa Yaa Baby, popularly known as Shuga.

The tragic incident took place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Seker, a community in Yeji, Bono East Region.

GH Kobby and two companions, Kojo Emmanuel and Michael Kabutey, were reportedly taken into police custody shortly after the shooting.

According to multiple reports, the influencer had retrieved a firearm from his car to allegedly fire warning shots into the air.

In the process, he allegedly shot Shuga in the left arm.

She was rushed to St. Mathias Hospital but sadly passed away shortly after arriving.

The couple had reportedly been in Yeji after attending the funeral rites of the late Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II before the incident occurred.

An alleged Assemblyman shared with the media that the group had stopped by a house to eat and drink.

Kobby was seen loading bullets into the gun when a bystander questioned his actions.

Moments later, a loud gunshot was heard, marking the tragic turn of events.

Police have since retrieved an assault rifle from Kobby’s vehicle, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Shuga’s remains have been deposited at the morgue.
