Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 Campaign Team, is urging members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to support the party’s decision to hold early presidential primaries, calling it a necessary step for long-term unity and stability.
Speaking on Saturday, June 21, Aboagye defended the National Council’s approval of January 31, 2026, as the official date for the presidential primaries.
He described the decision as one made in the best interest of the party and not driven by individual ambitions.
“I think it is in the interest of the party and anybody who has the NPP at heart to support this idea. We are reducing the picture to individual interest, and that is a problem. The National Council is looking at the bigger picture,” Aboagye said.
He cautioned that internal disagreements over the timeline risk undermining the NPP’s chances in future elections. For him, placing collective goals above personal interest is the only way forward.
“If you are running a group, and you decide to rely on pure individual interest, you will never make progress. Our views will always differ. But we must be able to sacrifice the few for the greater good,” he added.
The timeline for the primaries, proposed by the party’s Constitution Review Committee and ratified by the National Council, has stirred debate among party members.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Koduah, has clarified that the decision stands and will not be subjected to another vote at the delegates’ conference.
