Jerry Afriyie to fly back to Ghana U20 camp for crucial quarter-final clash

Ghana U20 star Jerry Afriyie has cemented his immense commitment to the country as he will fly back to Cairo on Sunday ahead of the Black Satellites’ crucial quarter-final showdown against host Egypt.

The explosive striker will rejoin his colleagues, 24 hours after he rescued his club side CD Lugo in the Spanish lower tier on Saturday, scoring a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Gimnastic.

Afriyie will leave Spain for Cairo on Sunday to join the team and prepare for the crucial World Cup decider against the Africa U20 Cup of Nations hosts, according to a report.

Afriyie had to leave camp last week following an arrangement between CD Lugo and the Ghana Football Association.

The red-hot striker has become an influential figure for both club and country, with his presence being a significant factor for the successes of Lugo and Ghana.

The former Thoughts FC player helped Ghana reach the quarter-final of the tournament after serving a match-winning assist against champions Senegal.

However, he had to miss the match against the Central African Republic to return to Spain and help Lugo, who are not in a good position on the Primera Federacion table. He scored and delivered an assist in the 2-2 draw against Gimnastic as Lugo climbed to 15th in the 20-team league.

The game between Ghana and Egypt on Monday will decide if the Black Satellites will make a return to the World Cup after a decade’s absence.

Afriyie’s presence will be a major boost for Desmond Offei’s side as Ghana seeks World Cup qualification.
