The Keta Divisional Police Command in the Volta Region has destroyed 24 large bags of suspected cannabis at Adzido, following a months-long investigation into illegal drug activity in the area.

The destruction of the drugs took place on April 25, 2025 after they were seized on December 29, 2023, after officers received a tip-off about a suspicious delivery at the Adzido beach.

The culprits abandoned the bags before police arrived, and no arrests have been made to date.

Chief Superintendent Maxwell Agyemang, the Keta Divisional Police Commander, revealed that each bag contained 30 wraps, with a street value estimated at GH₵500 per wrap.

In total, the confiscated drugs were valued at approximately GH₵360,000.

“We had a tip-off about the suspect, who dumped the cannabis at Adzido, and we intercepted it. Unfortunately, no arrest was made,” Mr Agyemang said.

The police have previously conducted similar operations in the area, including one in September 2024 where 78 bags of cannabis were seized under similar circumstances.

Despite ongoing investigations, no suspects have yet been identified in either case.

Mr Agyemang also shared plans to work with local authorities, including the Municipal Chief Executive, to launch educational programs that highlight the dangers of drug use among young people. He expressed concern about reports of drug use among junior and senior high school students.

The Senior Narcotic Drugs Control Officer at Aflao, Madam Elaina Annor-Agyapong, who witnessed the burning of the drugs, urged the youth to avoid hard drugs, warning of the health and legal risks involved.
