KMA backs Lady Julia’s initiative to restore Kumasi Children’s Park

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has pledged full support for the ongoing revitalisation of the Kumasi Children’s Park, an initiative led by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Lady Julia Foundation.

The project, backed by First Atlantic Bank and Nvugu Mining Limited, aims to restore the long-neglected public recreational space into a modern, child-friendly environment for residents in Ghana’s second-largest city.

During a site visit to inspect progress on Phase 1 of the project, the Mayor was accompanied by Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of the Asantehene, and senior officials from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Work currently underway includes the construction of a perimeter wall, new washroom facilities, a security post, a main entrance, and the rehabilitation of existing structures within the park.

“This initiative is in line with our vision at the KMA to improve public spaces and promote the well-being of children and families in Kumasi,” said Mayor Boadi. “We are grateful to Lady Julia and her partners for taking the lead, and the Assembly will provide all the necessary support.”

He added that the KMA would assign security personnel to protect the site and ensure the removal of all unauthorised structures around the park that could hinder the project’s progress.

The revitalisation of the Kumasi Children’s Park is widely seen as part of broader efforts to enhance green spaces in the Ashanti regional capital; a city historically celebrated as the Garden City of West Africa.

The project is expected to be completed in phases, with future works including playground installations and landscape development aimed at providing safe and educational recreational facilities for children.
