Kofi Adams vows to end politicisation of national team support base

Minister for Sports and Recreation nominee, Kofi Adams, says he’s committed to depoliticising the support base of Ghana’s national teams, arguing that excessive partisanship has harmed the country’s sporting progress.

Speaking on JoySports Link, he lamented the growing political influence in sports, particularly in how fans align their support along party lines.

“One major issue I will work tirelessly to address is the politicisation of our sports support base, especially for the national teams.

“The excessive partisanship in recent years has been detrimental, and it will not help us in the long run.”

He stressed that sports have always served as a unifying force and should remain free from political interference.

“We must allow sports to remain as we have always known them—unifying and free from political interference. I understand this will be a tough battle due to recent trends, and I anticipate resistance and challenges. However, I am committed to working hard to change this.”

His remarks come at a time when national team support appears to be divided along political lines, affecting morale and cohesion.
