Kumawood film producers have abandoned the industry and now selling phones — Michael Afrane

Kumasi-based actor, Michael Afrane, has criticized film producers in the local movie industry for abandoning Kumawood.

Michael Afrane claims that the business is dead, and thus all efforts are needed to bring it back to life.

In an interview with Ambassador TV, Michael Afrane said he was disappointed that several prominent producers have switched to other businesses outside of the film.

According to him, “the majority of the producers are now selling phones and engaging in other commercial activities rather than helping to revive Kumawood.”

According to him, just a few producers, actors, and actresses are now investing in the business because they are passionate about their profession.

Michael Afrane continued, “Producers who lack industry enthusiasm have shifted to other businesses because they are hesitant to make investments in the sector given its current status.”

If the sector recovers, he advised, “the producers who have switched to other industries should maintain the same vigour.”
