Kwame Ampadu to be buried on October 7

The funeral date for legendary Highlife Musician Nana Kwame Ampadu has been announced by his family.

The renowned highlife musician passed away on Tuesday, 28 September 2021.

The three-day funeral service will begin with a vigil on  Thursday, 6 October 2022, at the State House Forecourt.

The body will be laid in state the next day, Friday, 7 October 2022, and then the final interment at Obo Kwahu in the Eastern Region, on Saturday, 8 October 2022.

The last funeral rite will be held in his hometown at Obo Kwahu.

Nana Ampadu was 76.

A former General Secretary of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Nana Kwame Ampadu, born Patrick Kwame Ampadu was the founder of the famous African Brothers Band and rose to national prominence in 1967 with his song Ebi Te Yie.

The veteran musician was admired as a master lyricist for great compositions, including Getty, Oman Bo Adwo, Kofi Nkrabea, Yaw Berko, Obra, Agartha, and Obi Benya Wo.

Ampadu’s career saw him travel around the world, and in 2015, he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

In 2017, he was among five Highlife artists honoured at the MUSIGA Grand Ball, where he received a plaque and a cash prize.

Nana Ampadu was a mentor to several musicians, including Sam Derchie, Teacher Boateng, Nanaba Amoako, Senior Eddie Donkor, and Prince Osei Kofi. More recently, he worked with top artists, including rapper Sarkodie.
