Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan beat Algeria to qualify to CHAN Semifinals

Sudan’s National Men’s Football Team’s Cinderella Run in this year’s CHAN tournament continues after the Falcons of Jediane outlasted Algeria in a dramatic quarterfinal game.

Led by head coach James Kwesi Appiah, Sudan beat Algeria 4-2 in a penalty shootout to qualify for the semifinals of the continental championship eligible only to players who compete in their national football leagues.

The game ended tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time and extra time, and in the penalty shootout, Sudan goalkeeper Mohamed El Nour saved two penalty attempts to hand his team the stunning win. El Nour, unsurprisingly, was named as the Man of the Match.

Sudan are yet to lose a game in the tournament despite dealing with a civil war in the country that forced the team to assemble only four days before the start of the competition.
