Late Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio deserves to be honoured by Hearts of Oak – Coach J.E Sarpong

A former coach Premier League side Ebusua Dwarfs, J. E Sarpong, has called on Hearts of Oak to name the Pobiman Training Complex after the club’s former multiple trophy winner,  coach Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio.

Regarded as one of the most successful local coaches ever produced in Ghana, the late Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio guided the Accra based Hearts of Oak to conquer Africa in CAF Champions League and maiden CAF Confederation Cup in 2000 and 2004.

He also went on to win the coveted CAF Coach of the Year in 2001.

According to Sarpong, the achievements by late Cecil Jones Attuquayefio for Accra Hearts of Oak, warranted him being named after the club’s Pobiman Training Complex.

“Accra Hearts of Oak must name Pobiman Training Complex after Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio for his great achievement for the club, He played all his football for Olympics as a player.

“But when he became a coach for the Phobians he did the unpredictable by winning every trophy: league titles, FA cups, CAF champions league, CAF Super Cup and the Virgin CAF confederation cup,” he told Boss FM Sports.

“I’m very fortunate to have worked under him, the only sad thing is he could write a book for future generations, but I’m trying to honour him with a book which I have started,” he disclosed.

The decorated coach passed away in 2015 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a long battle with throat cancer.

The Rainbow club  on Monday paid tributes to the late coach Attuquayefio to mark the fifth anniversary of his demise.
