Legalize marijuana – Burna Boy

Nigerian rapper Burna Boy has waded into conversations surrounding the legalization of marijuana in most African countries.

According to the Grammy award winner, marijuana is used in many parts of Nigeria yet its legalization has not seen the light of day.

“It’s not a zero-tolerance. It’s like everybody does it, but no one wants to be the one that is seen with it. It’s just kind of hypocritical out there. Everybody smokes weed,” he said.

He stressed that the misconception around the Class A drug is another reason for its delayed legalization.

“It’s like some dumb sh*t bro. You know those old sh*t when they talk about it frying your brains. They try to make it seem like if you smoke it, you will go mad. Right now, everybody is relaxed, everybody does it, and everybody knows that. It’s just a topic no one wants to talk about. No one wants to talk about it; everybody is cool. Nobody wants to make it a thing,” he said in an interview on Home Grown Radio in Los Angeles.

In Ghana, there have been calls for the legalization of the class A drug.

Ace broadcaster and host of Peace FM’s morning show, Kwami Sefa Kayi in 2018 questioned why the country has not legalized the drug, so as to benefit fully from it.

“I am an advocate for it. So that’s my bias; I am for it…We have what they call social and recreational, that is one leg. I am not for that. There’s research and medicine. I am for that”, he claimed.
