LPG gas tanker catches fire in front of school

An LPG Gas tanker transporting gas to Mampong-Akwapem in the Eastern region has caught fire.

The tanker with registration number, GN 7453-15,  started blazing in front of the Mampong Akwapem Presbyterian SHS school gate.

Final year students, teachers, and Electoral Commission officials embarking on voters registration exercise in the school had to flee for their lives.

But for the timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service, the situation would have been worst.

Eyewitness say no life was lost, however, part of the tanker got burnt.

On March 4,2020, a premix fuel explosion at Elimina in the Central Region  left three people dead and five others severely injured.

On October 7, 2017, the country recorded another disaster that claimed lives and properties.

Residents, motorists and traders at Atomic junction were greatly affected by the explosion from Mansco Filling Station.

A report by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) stated that, “The explosion was due to the non-adherence to standard safety procedures resulting in fuel leakage due to a burst hoarse during the course of discharge. The leaked fuel was suspected to have come into contact with a naked flame at the filling station at around 7pm on the fateful day.”
