Background
Calls for the Chief Justice’s removal have intensified following petitions filed by three individuals alleging misconduct.
The petitions, which allege misconduct and abuse of power, were submitted on February 14 and March 17, 2025.
President John Mahama has since referred the petitions to the Council of State for advice.
However, this referral process has itself come under legal scrutiny. On March 27, Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah sued the Attorney General, arguing that the President breached constitutional procedure by referring the petitions without notifying the Chief Justice.
The Supreme Court, which is hearing an injunction application challenging the removal process, has adjourned proceedings until May 6.
The poll results reflect growing public interest and concern over judicial accountability as the legal and constitutional process unfolds.
