Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has delivered a blunt assessment of his team’s readiness to compete at the elite level by indicating that the club is better off not featuring in any European competition.
After finishing 15th in the English Premier League last season, Man United won’t feature in either the UEFA Champions League, Europa League or Conference League with Amorim taking over as head coach midway through the campaign.
He made this indication while addressing the press ahead of the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup second round game against Grimsby Town on Wednesday, August 27 at 19:00 GMT stating,
“I think we were not prepared to play Europe; that is my feeling, to have strong games in the Champions League and then play Premier League. We need time to develop as a team.”

“We need time to prepare every game. The games are really competitive, and we need time to build a base, and then, in the future, to move forward.”

Man United are winless two games into the 2025-2026 EPL season.
