Manhunt for ‘Spiderman’ who ‘stole and sold van for just GH¢1,200’

The Accra Circuit court has remanded two men after they allegedly stole and sold a vehicle for just GH¢1,200.

The accused persons, a 27-year old unemployed Evans Neutey and another only known as ‘Spiderman’ stole the KIA Besta vehicle which was valued at GH¢15,000.

They stole the three-seater van at Alhaji-Tabora station and later sold it at Agbogboloshie for GH¢1,200.

The facts of the case presented by General Sergeant Thomas Sarfo were that the complainant is George Larbi, a commercial driver residing at Tabora, Accra.

On September 3, 2019, around 11:00pm, the complainant parked his vehicle with registration number GR 7134 P at Alhaji Tabora Station and left it in the care of his mate.

According to the prosecution about 2:30pm the following day, the mate informed the complainant that he left to purchase food but on his return, the vehicle could not be found.

Prosecution said the following day the complainant reported the matter to the police.

The prosecutor said police intelligence and investigations led to the accused who was in Police custody for a different offence.

According to the prosecutor, during interrogation, “Nuetey admitted having stolen the vehicle with one Spiderman and that they sold it at Agbogboloshie to a man known as ‘Mainman’ at a cost of GH¢ 1,200.00 and shared the booty.”

The accused, however, failed to lead the police to the said “Mainman” as well as his accomplice, Spiderman.

But the complainant claimed to know Spiderman at Tabora but did know his place of abode.

According to the prosecution, efforts are being made to track the whereabouts of ‘Spiderman’.

The court presided over by Ellen Ofei Ayeh denied the accused person bail, explaining that “Nuetey has failed to satisfy the court that he has a fixed place of abode and a means of employment.”

The court argued that if Nuetey is granted bail it would be difficult for the police to trace his whereabouts.

Nuetey has pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.

The court adjourned the matter to September 4, 2020, for case management.

The court also ordered the prosecution to file their disclosures within 12 days.
