Marcus Rashford claims he is ‘fully free’ from injury

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has revealed his delight towards finally shaking off the injury problems that have plagued his past 12 months.

The 23-year-old is yet to play this season after electing to undergo surgery on a shoulder injury which had been bothering him ever since September 2020. Despite never being 100% fit, he still made 57 appearances for United and travelled with England for Euro 2020.

Fortunately, Rashford is back in training now and eyeing a long-awaited return to action, and he confessed to BBC Breakfast that he is raring to go.

“My recovery is – I wouldn’t say coming to an end because obviously I have to keep looking after it – but I’m in a much better place physically and mentally,” he confirmed.

“Last year was a very long season for me, I got this injury at the end of September and gradually it got that little bit worse, but now I’m fully free of that, I feel much better physically and mentally.”

Rashford then went on to admit his excitement towards the prospect of linking up with summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo, who first left Old Trafford back in 2009 when Rashford was still just a youngster in the academy.

“That’s a great feeling for me, as a player, but also as a fan of the club as well,” he said. “It’s always nice when a club legend finds a way back to the club. To be playing with him back at Old Trafford is a terrific feeling and hopefully gives us a push to start winning more trophies.”

United are hopeful of involving Rashford in the upcoming meeting with Leicester City, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sweating over the fitness of French defender Raphael Varane, who picked up an injury during Sunday’s Nations League final.

France boss Didier Deschamps did not disclose the nature of Varane’s injury after the game, leaving United fans concerned that they could be without both the Frenchman and captain Harry Maguire, who remains out with a calf injury.
