Martin Amidu was drawing salary from the Presidency – Inusah Fuseini

Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini says contrary to claims by Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu that he was not being paid for his work, his office was drawing money from the Presidency.

According to Mr. Amidu in a letter addressed to President Akufo-Addo, he and his deputy received no money from the government as salary from the day they assumed office until his resignation.

“It is essential for me to state for the purpose of the records, and contrary to public perceptions, that my appointment letter was received on 5th February 2020 (almost two (2)-years after my appointment).

“The copy addressees made no efforts to honor any of the conditions of appointment in terms of emoluments and benefits of the appointment ever since my warrant of appointment was issued on 23rd February 2018 to the date of my letter of resignation,” he explained.

But speaking on Joy FM, Mr. Inusah Fuseini said the assertions by the Special Prosecutor are false.

“For one whole year, Martin Amidu was drawing salaries from the Presidency.

“He was drawing a salary from the office of the President,” he said.

Giving further details, the MP said the performance report available to Parliament indicated that the Office of the Special Prosecutor was being taken care of by the Presidency.

“Monies were released to the Office of the Special Prosecutor from the Office of the President in the first year of operation. And so when we asked why he was paid from the Presidency they said because he was not on the payroll, the only way he could get the money released to him was through the Office of the President,” he said.

Mr. Amidu’s resignation comes three years after his appointment as the country’s first-ever Special Prosecutor.

In a letter addressed to the President, the Special Prosecutor said “the events of November 12, 2020, removed the only protection I had from the threats and plans directed at me for undertaking the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption assessment report and dictates that I resign as the Special Prosecutor immediately”.
