Maxwell Konadu to be announced Hearts of Oak’s new head coach

Accra Hearts of Oak have reportedly reached an agreement in principle to appoint Maxwell Konadu as their new Head Coach.

He will succeed Aboubakar Ouattara, who is set to move into the role of Technical Director.

Currently, the Phobians are finalizing the terms of the agreement with Konadu, who has been without a job since leaving South African club Black Leopards.

His return to the Ghanaian top flight represents a significant step for Hearts as they aim to reclaim their former glory and reestablish themselves as a dominant force in Ghanaian football.

At 52, Konadu is well-acquainted with the Ghana Premier League, having recently led Nsoatreman FC to an impressive victory in the MTN FA Cup before his brief stint in South Africa.

His extensive coaching experience includes serving as the head coach of Ghana’s U-23 team and multiple roles as an assistant coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars. Over the years, he has worked under several renowned coaches, including Milovan Rajevac, Avram Grant, Kwesi Appiah, Otto Addo, and Chris Hughton.

If the agreement is finalized, Konadu will face a challenging task ahead. Ouattara has guided Hearts to a respectable fifth place in the current league season, but the club is undergoing a transitional phase. Several key players are expected to leave at the end of the season, necessitating a significant squad overhaul.

Konadu will need to not only stabilize the team but also rebuild a competitive side capable of contending for titles. Hearts of Oak have not won the league since their triumph in 2021, and they are eager to return to the top of Ghanaian football.

The decision to promote Ouattara to a strategic technical role while bringing in an experienced and high-profile coach like Konadu reflects the club’s renewed ambition.

As one of the most respected coaches in Ghana, Konadu’s forthcoming appointment is likely to energize the fanbase and instill renewed optimism within the club.

With a rich blend of domestic and international experience, Hearts of Oak hopes that his leadership will ignite a new era of success.
