Medeama SC has officially announced the departure of long-serving captain and club legend Kwasi Donsu, marking the end of a remarkable 10-year journey with the Tarkwa-based club.

The 29-year-old midfielder is leaving by mutual consent, despite having one year remaining on his contract. Donsu has made a significant impact in Medeama’s history, playing a pivotal role during one of the club’s most successful eras.

Throughout his decade-long tenure, he helped the Yellow and Mauves secure one Ghana Premier League title and two FA Cup victories, while also contributing to multiple continental campaigns, including appearances in the group stages of both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Since making his debut 11 years ago, Donsu has evolved into a central figure in Medeama’s midfield. Known for his exceptional set-piece ability, the midfielder scored over 40 goals in all competitions, which is an impressive achievement for a player in his position.

His 2015-16 season stands out as one of the most iconic in recent domestic football history; he netted 15 goals that season, with 10 coming from free kicks.

His diverse range of free-kick techniques, from curling shots to powerful long-range efforts, consistently left goalkeepers stranded.

In 2019, Donsu expanded his horizons with a season-long loan at USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the United States, where he further developed his skills and gained valuable international experience.

In a groundbreaking move in August 2023, Donsu was one of nine Medeama players who transferred to Maltese Premier League side Sirens FC, marking the largest-ever transfer of players from a Ghanaian club to a single European side.

Although he had a year left on his contract, both parties have amicably agreed to part ways, a gesture that Medeama describes as a way to honor one of its greatest players.

Kwasi Donsu departs from Medeama not just as a player but as a symbol of loyalty, consistency, and brilliance.

His impact on Tarkwa and Ghanaian football as a whole will be remembered for years to come.
