Mobile money hits GH¢ 323.2bn despite June dip

The total value of mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GH¢ 323.2 billion in June 2025, according to the Bank of Ghana’s July 2025 Summary of Economic and Financial Data.

While this reflects a 10.2% decline from May’s GH¢ 360 billion, the year-on-year data points to strong overall growth in the sector.

Compared to June 2024, when mobile money transactions totaledGH¢ 224 billion, the June 2025 figure represents an increase of GH¢ 99.2 billion, a 44.3% annual growth.

This underscores the continued expansion of digital financial services in Ghana, despite short-term fluctuations.

The number of transactions also dipped month-on-month, falling from 796 million in May to 735 million in June, a 7.7% decline.

However, this still marks a 14.1% rise compared to the 644 million transactions recorded in June 2024.

Registered mobile money accounts rose to 76.4 million, with 24.5 million active users recorded in June.

Meanwhile, the float balance the total value of funds held in mobile wallets, climbed to GH¢ 28.9 billion.

Although both transaction volume and value declined slightly in June compared to May, the strong year-on-year growth highlights sustained demand for mobile money services, reflecting its central role in Ghana’s digital economy.
