My wife was pregnant but I had to sell our house – Sam George on his journey to parliament

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, says he had to sell off his house to fund his campaign in the 2016 general election.

According to him, he had to take that decision even though he and his pregnant wife stood the chance of becoming homeless

“…My wife was eight months pregnant then, but I had to sell my house to fund that campaign because nobody was going to give me money. Nobody believed that I would win that election . . . my wife told me that Kwabena, if you do this and we lose don’t come home, I was a month away from my primaries,” he said.

After picking up the cheque from the buyer, the family packed its luggage and head to Mr Sam’s parents’ home; he told Neat FM.

The gamble paid off.

Sam George defeated the incumbent E. T. Mensah, in the party’s primaries November 2015, and became the NDC’s candidate for the general election in

From the David vs Goliath encounter that made  Mr George the NDC’s Parliamentary candidate, he defeated the New Patriotic Party candidate, Sylvester Tetteh, in 2016 and entered Parliament in January 2016.

Relations between Mr George and his mentor, and veteran politician, E. T. Mensah, has since turned sour.

Before he contested the 2016 election, Mr George was a Presidential staffer, giving him the ears of the then President. He claimed he courted the President’s support for his ambition.

But when it came to the crunch, Mr George expressed his disappointment in former President Mahama for not believing in him and his abilities.

He said the former President did not support his campaign contrary to a promise he gave him.

“I was very hurt by the former president’s posture  especially because he had made an earlier promise to help fund my campaign, but I have had the opportunity to discuss this issue with him post-everything ” he added
