The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a significant quantity of suspected cocaine during a routine cargo inspection at the Swiss Port in Tema on Wednesday, April 23.
Officials say the consignment, which was being prepared for export to the Netherlands, was found to contain concealed packages of a substance believed to be cocaine.
Upon further examination, a total of seventy-three (73) slabs estimated to weigh approximately 89.74 kilograms were seized by the Commission.
The interception was part of NACOC’s ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking of illicit drugs through Ghana’s ports and borders.
Following the discovery, four individuals were arrested in connection with the attempted smuggling operation.
They are currently in NACOC custody as investigations continue into the full scope of the case, including the origin of the narcotics, the parties involved, and the intended recipients abroad.
Authorities have emphasized that this operation highlights the increasing sophistication of drug trafficking networks and the need for heightened vigilance at all entry and exit points.
NACOC has assured the public of its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking syndicates and upholding Ghana’s reputation as a law-abiding and secure trade partner.
The suspects are expected to face charges after preliminary investigations are concluded.
