National Sports Authority announce closure of facilities to GPL Games

Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) has announced the closure of its facilities for use by teams in the betPawa Ghana Premier League.

The announcement comes in the wake of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) suspending the 2022-2023 league season till October 14 due to a court injunction filed by Ashanti Gold Sporting Club.

The Obuasi-based club filed the motion of injunction to a court over what it believes is a violation of team members’ human rights due to the fallout from the GFA’s legal tussle with the club.

Ashanti Gold Sporting Club was banned indefinitely by the GFA by applying Article 17(1) of the Association’s statutes for dealing with Dr. Kwaku Frimpong and Emmanuel Frimpong.

Ash Gold Chairman Dr. Frimpong and the younger Frimpong who doubles as the club’s CEO were implicated in an alleged match-fixing scandal in a game against Inter Allies Football Club in the 2021-2022 league season.

Dr. Frimpong and Emmanuel Frimpong were handed 10 and eight year bans respectively for their alleged involvement in the match-fixing saga.

An NSA official who doesn’t want to be identified has told CITI Sports the NSA has taken this stance to avoid any related legal issues stemming from the court injunction. Attempts to reach the NSA for further official clarification have proven futile.
