NCCE steps in to provide detailed explanation on December 17 Referendum, clarifies misconceptions

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has noted with deep concerns the widespread misinformation and misconceptions that have characterized the public sphere in the lead up to the December 17 Referendum.

As such, NCCE has provided clarifications and detailed explanations on the motives for the Referendum, the implications of the likely outcomes and other relevant education to clear misconceptions and nonfactual information that is being circulated.

The Commission noted in a press release that, “the Referendum for the proposed amendment of Article 55(3) is to either Vote YES, to allow political party participation in Local Governance or NO, not to allow political party participation in Local Governance.”

“NCCE, therefore, urges the media to take note of this important clarification and educate the general public correctly,” the statement appealed.
