NDC has failed, only NPP can deliver for Ghana – Afenyo Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin delivered a scathing critique of the current government during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, held at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday, July 19.

Speaking to a packed gathering of party delegates, he described the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration as a total failure and called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite and reclaim its leadership role.

“Ghana is now paying the price for trusting the NDC’s hollow promises,” Afenyo-Markin said, accusing the government of betraying the trust of Ghanaians.

He pointed to rising fuel levies, growing economic hardship, and failed promises to fight illegal mining as evidence of poor governance.

He also raised concerns about democratic backsliding, alleging that the NDC had attacked judicial independence and undermined electoral integrity.

Citing recent unrest surrounding the Ablekuma North election, he claimed the NDC’s actions revealed a troubling disregard for democratic norms.

“Their promise of change is a sham,” he said. “With schemes to funnel our mineral wealth to cronies and shameful attacks on our Chief Justice, the message is clear. NDC is a failure. Ghana deserves better.”

Turning inward, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that the NPP’s own 2024 defeat exposed internal divisions and weak communication. But he urged members to see the loss not as the end, but as an opportunity to rebuild stronger.

“We must not allow 2024 to become the year that destroyed the NPP,” he said. “From this moment, we speak with one voice. We are not separated by tribe or region—we are NPP, and we are Ghana first.”

His remarks echoed a broader call for unity and purpose as the party works to reconnect with voters and prepare for the road ahead.
