Ndewura Jakpa students vandalise properties over social distancing in exam hall

Final year students at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical in the Savannah Region have gone on rampage destroying school properties over the 1.5-metre social distancing in the examination hall.

The students who are writing their exit exams, WASSCE, first destroyed the school’s lighting system, plunging the entire school into darkness.

Parts of the ceiling of a new six-unit classroom block that was handed over to the school to end double track were removed.

The rampaging students also destroyed the louvre blades of the school administration.

The students took to their heels when they spotted a vehicle approaching.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Braimah and MCE for the area, Saeed Muhazu Jibreal who visited the scene expressed their disappointment with the development.

Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical is not the only school to have engaged in acts of vandalism during the 2020 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Final year students of the Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School at Kumawu in the Ashanti Region on Monday threatened to boycott the ongoing WASSCE.

This was after they complained of strict supervision during the exams.

While demanding that the headmaster leaves the examination hall, they also accused him of manhandling some students and teachers during the exams.

It took the intervention of both political and traditional authorities to restore calm and get the students to rescind their decision.

The chaos led to the delay in writing the second paper for the day.

Some of the final year students after writing the first paper marched to the office of the District Chief Executive, Samuel Addai Agyekum to report their headteacher’s alleged misbehaviour.

According to the students, the headteacher had slapped a teacher and also abused other students who were sitting for the examination.

The other students who remained on campus refused to eat meals served in the dining hall.

In a viral video, the students were seen turning furniture upside down and throwing the food served away.

They chanted saying they would not eat the food served because their headmaster wants them to score F9 in their final exams.
