President John Mahama has officially sworn in the newly reconstituted Governing Board of the National Peace Council (NPC).

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Jubilee House on May 7, brought together a diverse group of respected religious, traditional, and civil society leaders.

Their task is to steer the Council in its mission to foster peace, promote dialogue, and strengthen social cohesion across the country.

The new board will be chaired by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Fianu, SVD, and includes prominent figures such as Rt. Rev. Dr. Hilliard K. Dela Dogbe, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, Bishop Dr. Victor Osei, and Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, among others.

Their combined experience spans decades of work in interfaith dialogue, community building, and conflict resolution.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama emphasised the importance of inclusive dialogue in a growing democracy like Ghana’s. He called on the board members to serve as beacons of calm and consensus during times of political tension or social unrest.

“As a country with diverse views and backgrounds, the role of the Peace Council cannot be underestimated. Ghana needs steady voices and wise leadership to navigate moments of uncertainty, and I believe this team can do just that,” he said.

With the country preparing for another election cycle, the board’s role will be especially critical in maintaining peace and trust in democratic institutions. Ghanaians will be looking to the Council for leadership that goes beyond rhetoric and into action.
