Nigeria sets date for reopening schools

The Nigerian government says schools across the country will reopen on Monday.

The education ministry said the decision was taken after wide consultations with state governors and stakeholders.

Last week, the education minister had suggested that the planned reopening of schools may be put on hold due to rising Covid-19 cases.

Nigeria is currently battling a second wave of the pandemic. It has recorded over 1,360 deaths since the pandemic started.

More than 100,000 cases of the virus have been confirmed in the country since February last year.
