No cut-off points in school placement process – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has vehemently debunked rumours circulating on social media and other platforms suggesting that fixed cut-off points would be used in the school placement process for Senior High Schools.

In a statement, GES clarified that candidate placements are predominantly determined by their raw scores.

They also take into account several other elements, including school competitiveness, demand for specific programmes, candidates’ aggregates, residential preferences such as whether they are opting for day or boarding schools, and considerations of catchment areas.

The Service indicated that the idea of fixed cut-off points is misleading and should not be part of the placement process, labelling these assertions as attempts by certain individuals to deceive the public.

“Anyone relying on such so-called cut-off benchmarks has been misinformed,” the statement said.

GES further urged parents, guardians, and students to dismiss such false claims and reassured all stakeholders of a placement system that is transparent, fair, and merit-based, ensuring every candidate has the opportunity they rightly deserve.

Meanwhile, the process is scheduled to start on September 17, 2025.
