The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially confirmed Dr Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as its parliamentary candidate for the Walewale constituency.
The confirmation was made during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
The decision follows the withdrawal of Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the incumbent Member of Parliament and one of the two aspirants in the parliamentary primary contest.
With Zuweira stepping down, Dr Mahama emerged as the sole aspirant for the position.
The NPP expressed high regard for Zuweira’s decision to withdraw and called on all stakeholders in the Walewale constituency to support Dr Mahama’s candidacy wholeheartedly.
In a statement signed and issued by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP praised Zuweira’s commitment to the party and wished her well in her future endeavours.
The party also expressed confidence in Dr Mahama’s ability to represent the NPP in the Walewale constituency and to work towards the party’s goals.
The confirmation of Dr Mahama as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Walewale comes ahead of the December 7, 2024, general elections.
