Tension still lingers in Nsawam-Adoagyiri after the burial of Issa Masawudu, one of the victims of the recent shooting incident that shocked the community.

He was laid to rest on Friday in accordance with Islamic rites, as family and friends gathered to mourn his passing.

Issa was one of two young men who lost their lives following violent clashes between rival youth groups on May 20 in Adoagyiri, a suburb in the Eastern Region.

His funeral came just hours after a second victim died from injuries sustained during the same incident.

A police report revealed that the confrontation began with gunshots on May 20, killing one and injuring another. A retaliatory attack soon followed, leaving three more people wounded.

The chaos escalated on Friday when enraged youth from Adoagyiri Zongo took to the streets, blocking roads, burning tyres, and damaging shops and vehicles.

“People are scared, but we’re urging everyone to stay calm while authorities do their work,” said Frank Annor Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri.

He visited the area alongside Municipal Chief Executive Selorm Philibert Fummey Amenorphe to appeal for peace.

Police reinforcements from the National Headquarters and the Formed Police Unit were deployed to restore order.

Although calm has returned, the atmosphere remains tense. No arrests have been made yet, and investigations are ongoing.

Community leaders and residents are calling for justice and a long-term solution to the growing tensions among youth in the area.
