Ofori-Atta is not a fugitive; OSP got it wrong – NPP

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive, describing it as “unreasonable.”

At a press conference held on Thursday at the party’s headquarters, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, strongly criticised the OSP’s decision.

“Mr Ken Ofori-Atta can never be a fugitive. He is not a fugitive, and he will never be a fugitive. The OSP got it wrong,” Nana B asserted.

He emphasised that since assuming public office in 2017, the former minister has always addressed any legal matters concerning him and remains committed to cooperating with the authorities.

Nana B also cautioned the OSP against making what he called “sensational statements” that could incite public emotions and create unnecessary drama. He argued that the issue could have been handled more appropriately through official correspondence.

He assured the public that Ken Ofori-Atta would return to Ghana to assist with the investigation once he completes his medical treatment in the United States.

The controversy follows the OSP’s declaration on Wednesday, February 12, in which Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng labelled Ofori-Atta a fugitive, stating, “The fugitive’s name is Kenneth Ofori-Atta.”

The former minister is accused of causing financial loss to the state in relation to five financial dealings he signed while serving as finance minister.
