A commercial motorbike rider, only identified as Emmanuel, in the Boinso community of the Western North Region, has fortunately escaped a brutal machete assault believed to have been intended to take his life.
The chilling incident unfolded on Thursday, June 20, between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m., as Emmanuel was returning home from work.
According to eyewitness accounts and information from the police, the attack transpired along a particularly dangerous stretch of rough road in Boinso, where motorcyclists are compelled to slow down because of the poor conditions.
While carefully navigating through this area, Emmanuel was unexpectedly ambushed by an assailant armed with a machete. He suffered multiple slashes to his head and neck, leaving him bleeding heavily.
However, his life was spared thanks to the swift intervention of another motorbike rider, who frightened the attacker away.
Despite his injuries, Emmanuel identified his assailant as Abu, also known as Subzero, a fellow motorcycle rider from the same town.
He pointed out that the suspect was wearing a distinctive Barcelona jersey, which police later confirmed was what Abu had on during his arrest.
Currently, Emmanuel is undergoing treatment at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi, near Enchi, while the suspected attacker remains in custody at the Enchi Municipal Police Station as investigations continue.
Though there have been no formal charges filed beyond the assault, several residents speculate that the suspect might be affiliated with a local syndicate linked to the sale of human body parts.
These suspicions, according to sources within the community, relate to previous instances of mysterious disappearances involving individuals who reportedly hired rides from motorbikers believed to be part of this group.
The police have stated that they are actively investigating the motive behind the attack and working to address the community’s concerns.
