A group of commercial motorcycle riders attacked the staff of the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital in the Central region following the death of their colleague in an accident.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved two motorcycles, popularly known as Okada.

The accident occurred when one rider, carrying a passenger, crashed with the other heading in the opposite direction.

The eyewitnesses recounted that both riders were speeding and alleged that a power outage at the time prevented them from seeing each other.

All three victims were then rushed to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital following the crash.

However, one of the riders was later declared dead while the other and his passenger were critically injured.

The news of the rider triggered his colleagues, who angrily stormed the hospital to assault the staff on duty and vandalised some properties.

Speaking to the media, Assemblyman for Agona Asafo Electoral Area, Ishmael Odoom, said some of the Okada riders slapped a doctor on duty, chased out nurses, smashed their phones, and destroyed computers in the hospital.

He condemned the actions of the riders, highlighting that such behaviour is unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the Swedru police have begun investigating the matter.
