One dead, others injured in military-youth clash at Nyinahini

One person has been confirmed dead following a confrontation between military personnel and some civilians in Nyinahini, situated in the Ashanti Region.

Five other civilians have sustained severe injuries due to the incident.

Reports indicate that the soldiers encountered a group in military camouflage while travelling along the route to a burial.

An eyewitness, Rev. Francis Nyamekye, who spoke in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report, indicated that the officers spotted the youth in military camouflage attire among some mourners on their way to a burial.

The military then requested the youth to strip, leading to what became a violent clash.

It is reported that the military fired into the crowd, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.

“One person died at the spot, and the other five victims were rushed to the Nyinahin Government Hospital, and another person has been transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital,” he said.

The incident has caused significant unrest within the community.

Meanwhile, the police and the military have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
