One dead, over 150 structures destroyed in fiery Madina Redco fire
A devastating fire tore through a densely populated area near the Madina Redco Flats late last night, destroying more than 150 structures and claiming the life of a young woman.
The blaze broke out at approximately 11:15 p.m., rapidly engulfing around 140 wooden and 20 metal structures used for both residential and commercial purposes.
Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station responded within two minutes, arriving on the scene at 11:17 p.m.
Reinforcements from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and the GNFS Headquarters soon followed.
Despite the fire being fully developed by the time crews arrived, they managed to bring it under control by 12:02 a.m. and fully extinguish it by 2:22 a.m.
Tragically, a young Nigerian woman identified only as Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, was trapped inside one of the structures and lost her life.
Her remains have been handed over to the Madina Police for investigation and preservation.
In total, over 150 structures and their contents were reduced to ashes.
However, thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service, more than 200 additional structures, including the Redco Flats, were saved from the flames.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
