One dead, three injured in armed robbery attack on Metro Mass bus

A Metro Mass Transit bus en route from Bunkpurugu to Tamale was assaulted by armed robbers during the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025, leading to the death of one person and leaving three severely injured.

The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred around 2:27 a.m. on the Duuklotuk–Nakpanduri highway when armed individuals allegedly attempted to stop the moving bus using flashlights.

As per eyewitness reports, the driver, sensing danger, declined to stop, which led the assailants to open fire on the vehicle.

An eyewitness who communicated with the media stated, “The armed robbers didn’t block the road with any object. They stopped the bus with torchlights, and when the driver refused to stop, they started shooting at the back of the bus. The place where it happened was not a community-based location”.

The deceased and the injured were swiftly transported to the Faith Community Hospital in Nakpanduri for urgent medical care.

Several surviving passengers voiced significant concerns regarding the frequent early-morning departures of buses from Bunkpurugu to Tamale, which they believe place travellers at increased risk of robbery and ambush.
