Online fraud, cyberbullying, and blackmail top Ghana’s cybercrime list in 2025 — CSA Report

Online fraud, cyberbullying, and online blackmail have been identified as the most commonly reported cybercrimes in Ghana this year, according to new data from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).

Between January and September 2025, the CSA recorded a total of 3,286 cybercrime cases, marking a significant rise in digital threats across the country.

Online fraud was the most reported crime, with 1,200 cases, making up over one-third of the total.

These scams include mobile money fraud, fake investment schemes, and phishing attacks, all of which have caused major financial losses to both individuals and businesses.

Cyberbullying came in second with 738 cases, highlighting growing concerns about online harassment especially targeting women and young people.

Online blackmail ranked third, with 507 reported incidents, followed by unauthorised access to systems (390 cases) and unauthorised disclosure of information (288 cases).

The CSA attributes the rising numbers to the country’s increasing reliance on digital platforms and a general lack of public awareness around online safety.

In response, the Authority is stepping up its nationwide cybersecurity awareness campaigns and regulatory enforcement efforts, urging the public to take simple precautions such as verifying online sources, using strong passwords, and reporting suspicious activity to stay safe online.
