Our brother was not a thief – NPP Chairman’s family rejects police account of robbery incident
The family of Seidu Bukari, younger brother of Bono East NPP Regional Chairman Ibrahim Baba Bukari, has firmly rejected the interim report from the Ghana Police Service regarding his death, labelling the incident an unjustified killing.
Seidu Bukari was fatally shot in the early hours of August 1, 2025, at the home of the NPP Chairman in James Town, Techiman.
The police in an earlier statement noted that Seidu was a suspect in a robbery attempt and was shot while trying to escape by climbing a wall.
They also claimed he was associated with a known robbery gang operating in the area.
However, Alhaji Issah Mahmoud Ali, the family’s spokesperson, refuted the police’s account in an interview. He called for a more credible explanation regarding his brother’s death.
“We reject the rumours and alleged police reports suggesting our brother was caught scaling a wall during a robbery attempt. The police must come up with a better story to explain why he was killed,” Alhaji Ali stated.
The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Adjei Mensah, paid a visit to the family to express condolences and assured them that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
In response to the incident, Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno has dispatched a specialised team from the CID Headquarters, alongside the Police Professional Standards Bureau and the Police Intelligence Directorate, to look into the circumstances of the shooting.
