Parliament tightens security to prevent 4 suspended MPs from gaining access
Parliament has tightened security at the entrance of the Chamber to prevent four suspended legislators and non-MPs from gaining access.
The suspended MPs are South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor; Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh; Gushegu MP, Alhassan Tampuli; and Weija-Gbawe MP, Jerry Ahmed Shaib.
These MPs were suspended by the Speaker for two weeks, following their involvement in the chaos that occurred during the vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 31, 2025.
Today’s sitting is expected to focus on a debate on the approval of several ministerial nominees that have been vetted by the Appointment Committee.
Already, members of the Minority caucus, clad in red and black outfits, have arrived at the entrance of the Chamber, protesting the suspension of three of their members.
Meanwhile, Parliament has directed the MPs to take off their red armbands before accessing the Chamber.
Subsequently, the legislators complied and were allowed to access the Chamber for government business to commence.
