Photos: Military might, blast of colours from 63rd Independence Day parade
Ghana crowned its 63rd independence anniversary celebration on Friday, with military pageantry, fireworks and a host of other activities, but also reflected on the turbulent and traumatic events that led to the country’s birth.
On Thursday, sporadic fireworks lit up the sky at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, a commercial hub named after an iconic figure in the fight for independence.
On March 6, 1957, Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, declared Ghana independent after centuries of British colonial rule, ushering the country into an era of self-rule.
It’s a day that has since been celebrated with pomp and ceremony. With the government taking a decision to rotate the celebration among the country’s 16 regions, Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital took its turn this year, turning the event into a blast of colours.
It was a display of rich Ghanaian culture, heritage and military might.
For the past week, all major streets of Ghana’s second-biggest city, Kumasi, have been decked out with the red, gold and green national flag.
Here are exciting photos from the event:
Beautiful as the images may look. The world deadly coronavirus is knocking at the doors of every country, therefore the Heath Authorities are beating gong-gong to alert the people of Ghana about the dos and the don’ts. And now that the same Authorities look unconcern and allowed that big crowd to move, no, will you end your combatment advice there ot you will continue ? ODASENI, Italy
