Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, Kafui Danku-Pitcher, has disclosed that Nigerian Filmmaker, Bimbo Ademoye, failed to provide evidence of Ghanaian television stations pirating her movies.
Bimbo Ademoye, in April 2025, took to her social media pages to criticise certain Ghanaian TV stations for allegedly showing her movies without proper authorisation.
After her post, Communications Minister Sam George and NFA Boss, Kafui Danku-Pitcher responded to her and assured her of resolving the matter.
In an interview on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Kafui said after an initial interaction with Bimbo Ademoye, she got no response.
She noted that later the Nigerian actress reached out to her about the issue. Kafui then requested for evidence in order to allow the responsible institutions to take up the matter.
To her surprise, the Nigerian filmmaker responded by saying the evidence had disappeared as it was sent to her in a disappearing chat mode on WhatsApp.
Danku-Pitcher noted that she found the response “ridiculous” but did not proceed with the matter.
“Because recently, after Bimbo lashed out and we reached out to her, I later went on UTV, and she saw a headline that I reached out to her and she did not respond. She got in touch, we started chatting and I asked her can I have the evidence so we could put it on file and start working on it. She told me that whoever sent her the message sent it in a disappearing mode, which I think is ridiculous.
“But I didn’t want to stretch it out because if truly they are using us to get some attention, then it is working,” she stated.
Kafui Danku-Pitcher emphasised that the appropriate institutions are working around the clock to resolve issues of piracy in the country.
“This is a major problem we’ve been trying to work on. We met with NCA, the Minister for Communications so there’s work in progress,” she assured.
The NSA Boss continued: “But when this Nigerian recently posted and abused the institutions without evidence, I am tempted to believe that maybe they are beginning to use us to chase some clout.”
