PL: West Ham stun Chelsea in thrilling encounter

Source The Ghana Report

West Ham produced a thrilling late comeback to beat Premier League leaders Chelsea in a thrilling encounter at the London stadium.

A late strike from Arthur Masuaku gave top-four hopefuls the maximum points after making two comebacks in the game

After collecting the ball wide on the left, Masuaku arrowed a cross-cum-shot past Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy at his near post to send the Hammers supporters into ecstasy.

Thiago Silva’s towering header from Mason Mount’s corner broke the deadlock for Chelsea in the first half, but Manuel Lanzini hauled the Hammers level from the penalty spot five minutes before the break after Jorginho’s poor back pass and Jarrod Bowen’s tenacious press saw goalkeeper Edouard Mendy lunge in and concede the spot-kick.

Mason Mount restored Chelsea’s lead with a sumptuous near-post volley on the stroke of half-time, but the hosts roared back once again through Bowen’s low drive from the edge of the area before Masuaku’s remarkable 87th-minute winner.

The win consolidates West Ham’s place in the top four, while for Chelsea, a second defeat of the campaign ends an eight-game Premier League unbeaten run and gives Manchester City and Liverpool an opportunity to go top of them with a win this weekend.
