Police arrest 8 after rescuing victims in viral kidnapping video
The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force, has rescued two female victims who were abducted and subsequently featured in a viral video.
The video which showed the kidnappers brutally assaulting the victims with a cutlass sparked public concern and calls for the Ghana Police to take immediate action.
In a statement dated May 1, 2025, the police said they have arrested eight suspects at their hideouts both in Ghana and Nigeria following the successful rescue operation.
“Further details will be shared in due course. The Ghana Police Service is immensely grateful to the NSB and the Nigeria Police Force for the collaboration and support in the rescue and arrest operations,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, one of the victims has been identified as Ama Serwaa Konadu, a 39-year-old hairdresser and event decorator from Asiakwa in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
She was abducted on Tuesday, April 22, while on her way to work.
The next day after her abduction, the kidnappers, who claimed to be holding her in Nigeria, sent nude pictures and videos of her to her family through her mobile phone.
They demanded a ransom of GH₵500,000 for her release. The family quickly reported the issue to the police, prompting the investigations.
