Police in Ghana’s Eastern South Region have obtained an arrest warrant for three individuals linked to the fatal shooting of Daniel Amekudzi during a funeral procession in Attakrom-Amanfro on June 27, 2025.

The warrant, issued by the Nsawam Circuit Court on July 3, names Francis Sakyi, also known as Nana Kofi Akotua, along with two others who remain at large.

According to investigators, the incident occurred when mourners transporting a body from Nsawam to Aburi engaged in traditional musketry.

A misunderstanding between the group and local youth escalated into violence, resulting in Amekudzi’s death.

Police believe the suspects may be hiding in nearby towns such as Aburi, Mempeasem, or Kitasi. The Eastern South Regional Police Command is now calling on the public to assist in locating them.

“We would like to urge anyone with relevant information that could lead to the arrest of suspect Francis Sakyi, alias Nana Kofi Akotuah and the two others to report to the nearest police station or contact the Police Command Centre on 191, 112 (18555 MTN),” said ASP Foster Owusu of the Public Affairs Unit.

The Command has assured the bereaved family and the community that justice will be pursued. They’ve also appealed for calm as investigations continue.
