Police seek call records in UG student’s boyfriend murder case

Source The Ghana Report

Police investigators are seeking records of telephone conversations and bank transactions from the telcos and banks in the case in which a Level-100 student of the University of Ghana has been charged with murdering her boyfriend.

The accused, 23-year-old Safiana Mohammed Adzinatu, is alleged to have been assisted by a technical officer Michael Fiifi Ampofo Arku, in committing the crime.

The two have been charged with conspiracy and murder.

The deceased, Frank Kofi Osei, a Canadian-based Ghanaian, was in the country on vacation when he met his untimely death.

When the case was called before the Adentan District Court, the prosecution indicated that they had written to the telcos and the banks and were hoping to get responses in the course of the week.

The magistrate then urged the prosecution to pursue the disclosures and forward the same to the Attorney General’s office for advice on the case docket.

The two accused persons have been remanded to reappear in court on October 25, 2022.

Brief facts

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Jacob Nyarko, had told the court that the deceased visited the girlfriend on Sunday, July 24, at her residence at Ashalley-Botwe School Junction and decided to spend the night there.

According to the prosecution, at night, Safina, Arku, and other accomplices yet to be identified stabbed Osei several times with a knife on his chin, jaw, and back and strangled him to death.

The chief inspector revealed that the blood was later cleaned by Safina and Arku while the deceased was in the room for 24 hours.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons later dragged the deceased from the first floor of the storey building through the staircase and dumped him at the gate of the house where the deceased had parked his Toyota Tundra and washed the blood stains off the staircase.

On Tuesday, July 26, at about 4 am, Safina called a police officer, saying that her boyfriend had visited her and he had died in her room.

The prosecution said the police officer called a police patrol team, who rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased lying at the gate of Safina’s house.

However, Safina and Arku were nowhere to be found.

Chief Inspector Nyarko said the police later traced Safina to Ashalley Botwe School Junction and arrested her.

The prosecution said Arku, after committing the act, absconded to Kumasi.

It added that efforts were underway to apprehend other accomplices on the run.
