Power restored in Tamale after ministerial intervention
Electricity has been fully restored to Tamale and surrounding communities after a major disruption left thousands in the dark.
The issue, sparked by a service withdrawal from staff at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and the Volta River Authority (VRA), was resolved following the intervention of the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor.
In response to the crisis, the Minister travelled to the Northern Region, where he met with a wide range of stakeholders, including local government officials, NEDCo management, and representatives of the staff unions.
Discussions also involved the Regional Police Commander and the Head of National Security for the area to ensure calm during the power outage.
In a show of cultural respect and community involvement, Minister Jinapor also visited key traditional leaders at the Gukpenaa, Kuga Naa, and Gbewaa Palaces.
The Ministry expressed special appreciation to the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari Gariba II, for his warm reception and valuable counsel during the visit.
Traditional authorities played a key role in maintaining peace and encouraging cooperation throughout the process.
“We are pleased that the situation has been resolved amicably,” Minister Jinapor said. “This outcome shows the importance of dialogue and collective effort.”
The Ministry is now urging residents to support NEDCo and VRA staff as they resume work and has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for all Ghanaians.
