Ghana suffered a 3-2 defeat to Portugal in their opening group game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars went into the game with what could be described as a defensive set-up after Coach Otto Addo’s lineup saw a back-five defence which seemed to have paid off after the first half ended without a goal.
However, the second half didn’t go as planned after the 2016 European Champions took the lead in the 65th minute when poster boy Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot.
Andre Ayew’s 73rd-minute goal cancelled Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal. It appeared to have given the Stars hope for a comeback victory, but two quick goals from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao ensured the Portuguese were back in control.
Substitute Osman Bukari headed home a Baba Rahman cross to awaken the fighting spirit of the team, but all efforts to come back didn’t get the needed results for the African side after the final whistle.
The results mean Portugal go top of Group H with 3 points while Ghana drop to the bottom.
The other Group H game played earlier between South Korea, and Uruguay ended in a goalless stalemate.
Next, for Ghana, the Black Stars will face off with South Korea.
