The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman of the Ayawaso West Wuogon, Bismark Aborbi- Ayitey is pleading with President Nana Akufo-Addo to release the Ayawaso Wuogon Commission of inquiry report.

According to him, the report, if released, will serve as a guideline for political parties and constituents in the area ahead of the 2020 polls.

“We need to know what the commission recommended so we work around it towards the 2020 general election, the president cannot shelve the report,” he said.

BACKGROUND

The Akufo-Addo led government formed the Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry to look into the violence recorded as part of continuous support in unravelling the truth behind the disturbances.

Some National Security Operatives allegedly fired gunshots at a polling centre at La Bawaleshie, injuring about six persons believed to be NDC supporters during the election on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

The National Democratic Congress subsequently opted out of the race claiming they took the decision to forestall further attacks on their members.

Minority MP, Sam George was reportedly assaulted by some officers detailed to maintain calm at the grounds.

The violence that characterized the by-election has been widely condemned by civil society organizations.

The Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry in April 2019 presented its report to President Nana Akufo-Addo. The report outlines the findings and recommendations of the committee.

President Akufo-Addo has said that individuals found culpable would be dealt with.
