6 killed, 2 injured in armed attack in Chenchire community
About six people have been confirmed dead and two others injured following an armed attack in the Chenchire community near Mandari in the Bole District of the Savannah Region.
A statement issued by the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters indicated that the unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday, August 28, 2025, leaving the community deserted as terrified residents fled into the bush for safety.
According to the police, it took hours before residents emerged to assist the police officers in locating the victims.
The police statement further narrated that a team led by the Bole Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Alex Adjeivie, was dispatched after reports of the assault reached the police around 2:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered six bodies scattered in different directions across the village.
The deceased have been identified as Nyor Nyawile, aged about 70; Nyoropor Nanii Nuuro, 55; Sachera, 71; Namii Tsipor, 80; and Kwabena Bogara, 29.
The two injured were also identified as Sansah Sinkpe, 80, and Sansah Boonie, 43. They are currently at the Bole District Hospital receiving treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have since been conveyed to the Damongo Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Savannah Regional Police further stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the attack and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, the law enforcement agency has also assured residents of increased security patrols in the area to restore calm.
This latest development comes amidst a violent gun battle over a land dispute in Gbenyiri, a community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
Several lives have already been lost following the incident.
